Niall sits on the EN and NFPA (USA) Foam Systems standards committees and has Led development of much of current related industry good practice guidance including publications of Energy Institute, International Oil and Gas Producers’ Association, Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators and LASTFIRE (see below) as well as in-house standards for major oil companies.

He has recently directed the most comprehensive large scale independently run test series of fire performance of new generation C6 fluorosurfactant and Fluorine Free foams for spill and tank fire application for more than 30 years.

Niall Ramsden was a responder at the Buncefield Incident where he acted as advisor to Fire Brigade and Industry Terminal Operators. He was then contracted by the Buncefield Major Incident Investigation Board to provide expert opinion on incident causes and comment on recommendation issues.

Dr. Niall Ramsden is a specialist in Oil and Gas Fire Hazard Management. Niall has comprehensive knowledge, experience and expertise in international practices related to all aspects of Fire Hazard Management in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors from site specific policy development through to implementation and assurance.

Niall Ramsden is also project Coordinator of the LASTFIRE Project, an international industry group reviewing the risks associated with storage tank fires. The Group’s work includes incident data collection, best practice development and research on topics including boilovers and firefighting foam effectiveness.
